Welcome note

Dear Friends and Colleagues, We feel honored and privileged to invite you to participate in the 3rd Balkan Fungus (Balkan Fungus 2024) which will take place in October 10-13, 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia. Balkan Fungus is a regional meeting that started very successfully in 2018 from the charming and heroic city of Timisoara, Romania, as a promising initiative of five Balkan national societies of Medical Mycology (Serbia, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Croatia).

It is a great opportunity for all scientists that come from the Balkans and are involved with Medical Mycology and Mycotoxicology to meet, discuss and exchange their scientific interests and work results. The ambition is that these meetings will progress friendship, collaboration and understanding between all of our neighboring countries and societies. The meeting organizer is Serbian Society of Medical Mycology established in 2007 with mission to reduce diseases and mortality caused by fungi, to design innovative tools for laboratory diagnosis and to apply knowledge and personalization in medical mycology.

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain and the Balkan Peninsula. The population of the Belgrade metropolitan area is 1,681,405 according to the 2022 census. It is one of the major cities of Southeast Europe and the third most populous city on the Danube river. Belgrade is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe and the world. One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC.

Belgrade has one of the biggest Universities in the Balkans and adds the freshness of youth, originality, innovation and progressiveness to the city. In this city we hope that we will meet again and deepen our friendly ties by the occasion of a very interesting and stimulating conference, where important and “hot” topics of medical mycology will be presented by a multitude of experts and broadly renowned colleagues coming from our region or other European countries.

With all our best and warmest regards, we expect you in Belgrade.
